The winds were reported at 129 mph. On Monday late afternoon we surveyed the damage. By Tuesday we were able to clean up. We drove around a bit to see how things were and were very impressed as to how quickly people responded to clearing up the roads. People. Private citizens. Yes, there's damage, lots of trees down, various amounts of damage to structures, but damn - that people got out and helped out their fellow man. Now, yes, there are those that you just want to see drop kicked into the ocean for being idiots. Like those who want to stand in line for the free (whatever) and a) have no real need for it b) didn't prepare for it c) feel that they are entitled to it, just because.
And, while yes, being without power is an inconvenience - the weather is nice and cool -AND- for the most part, structures are still up and fairly whole. Life is slowly returning to normal, so for those IDIOTS who think this is the worst thing ever - it's not. It's not NOLA or Cozomel (man those poor bastards had to deal with this storm for HOURS and HOURS and freakin HOURS) and the news, as usual, tends to focus on the worst things ever as opposed to pulling back and showing the whole picture.
My job is being great by paying us workers for the whole week. We've lost our back fence, a medium sized ficus tree, about 70% of the tiles on our roof. Other than that, there's no other damage to our house. The downside will be getting our roof done, as any work of that nature by a contractor will be hard to come by. We'll do what we can. So, for now, the Atomic Lounge is still open for business. The gardens will be worked on and improved. Local friends are doing well and are accounted for.

A few years ago a rash or Tornados hit Indy's southside..Lots of damgae and debris. I was talking to a cop who saw some guy walking down the sidewalk with a STOP LIGHT. Yes I genuine TRAFFIC LIGHT that got blown down. The officer asked "where are you going with that?" The guy replied "Home?" The cop then said "not with that you are not!"
The dude had the nerve to say "Why, I found it!"

When Katrina went through, a group hit a pawn shop and stole weapons, people posed as FPL workers to trick the elderly so they could rob them in their homes, people would pose as charity collectors and just pocket the money. These are the people that need to be spiked alla Vlad the Impaler and displayed for the lowest scum they are.
